Founded in 2010 by Darrin Carter, a 44 year old married father of 3 living in Walesby, Nottinghamshire, Carter Estate Agents now has offices in Ollerton in Nottinghamshire and Denham in Buckinghamshire.
Darrin says “We want to change the general perception that people have of our profession. We believe there is a need locally for an experienced independent, customer focused agent, who can provide some good old fashioned service. We are also aware that today’s sellers don’t just want a buyer, and exemplary customer service, but they also want to ensure they are getting value for money and if possible have the flexibility to choose how they pay”
Darrin Carter started his estate agency career back in 1985, joining a local firm in Kent as a trainee negotiator. Over the next 15 years, Darrin progressed into management working for some well known estate agents including Halifax Property Services and haart. Moving to Nottinghamshire in 2000, Darrin opened his own estate agency Carter & Company in Grantham. In 2003, having already built up a growing reputation for customer service, Carter & Company won the Grantham Journal Small Growing Business award. In 2005, Darrin decided to sell the business, and further his experience and career. For a few years, he then worked with a number of leading estate agents, supplying products and services. Then at the beginning of 2010 it was time to get back to what he does best and open Carter Estate Agents. As well as selling houses, Darrin is a governor at a local school in Walesby, and an accomplished and well known property blogger, with over 1250 followers on twitter. He writes a monthly property based article for the Life magazine group which is distributed to over 60000 homes in Nottinghamshire, and has been quoted in The Times, and other national and regional media.
Darrin adds "It was my 25th anniversary of working in this industry in February 2010. In a lot of ways, the core ethics and practices of estate agency haven’t changed, certainly the process is much the same as it was all those years ago. What has changed is the technology used to promote properties, and how we can communicate with both buyers and sellers. In 1985, we thought sticky back colour photos on details were revolutionary. Now we have the internet, social networking applications, email and SMS texting. What hasn’t changed is the expectation that customers have of their agent for service and value for money. We want to build our business on reputation, and after only a year we are now getting a lot of work through recommendation, and long may this continue. "
